High, lows and LOLs in lockdown

The first thing I want to say is that I feel very lucky that I have still been able to work – and that my work is within a fantastic team providing holistic care and support for vulnerable people. The demand for our service could not be greater and being able to access guidance, support and a listening ear has been so beneficial for all my young and adult clients.

Privileged as we are to be able to do that work, we all know that we need to take care of our own wellbeing, too, and to manage the challenges of having to be more flexible than usual within our job roles. What with one thing and another I have definitely had some highs and lows over the past four months but being able to speak openly with family, friends and our staff team has been a great support.

One thing that has really helped my wellbeing has been my country bike rides. It’s a shame that it took a pandemic to get me to dust off my bike. I really wish I’d done it sooner. But cycling through the north Cumbrian countryside has given me the time to think and reflect and appreciate how lucky I am that I am able to get out and about. I tend to head out first thing in the morning (weather premitting – I don’t profess to be a hardcore cyclist). I feel a real sense of achievement when I get back home which really helps my motivation for the rest of the day.

In my ‘normal’ life I’m also a singer and I’m really missing all my gigs. All the weddings I was booked to sing at this summer have now been postponed. At least I will be extra well rehearsed by the time they do come round! And I’ve also been able to practise with my singing partner via Zoom so that we’re ready for our next studio time in 2021.

Another thing I’ve been doing is sharing some fun times with a group of friends.  We have a regular Zoom evening with a fancy dress theme and a quiz (that’s my 1980s look in the picture). We’ve shared lots of laughs and it gives us something to look forward to each week. I think I may be able to set up a fancy dress shop after all of this so if you need a wig (very helpful for Lockdown Locks) just give me a call…

Sending positive vibes to you all at this time…

Take Care
