Free Alcohol Brief Intervention Training (ABIT)
November 5, 2015free
Members from the recent Barrow- in -Furness Alcohol Inquiry from the Ormsgill Ward have identified and recommended that training and education are vital to tackling and reducing alcohol related harm within our local community. In response to these recommendations NHS Cumbria’s Clinical Commissioning Group have commissioned Cadas to deliver Alcohol Brief Intervention Training (ABIT) and a ‘Train the Trainer’ Programme to local partners both from the statutory, voluntary and private sector in the Barrow-in-Furness area.
We are offering key partners and organisations an opportunity to receive this valuable and time limited training for free and to support their front line staff to better address alcohol related harm with their clients or customers. Of those who receive the Alcohol Brief Intervention training, a carefully selected number will be invited to proceed onto the ‘Train the Trainer’ programme with the view to becoming their organisations’ ABIT trainer.
The aim of the Alcohol Brief Intervention Training is:
To enable front line staff to give 5-10 minute brief interventions to clients or customers they are in contact with who may have or live with someone who has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
The aim of the ‘Train the Trainer’ Programme is:
To offer training to appropriate partner and statutory organisation staff, to enable them to train their own organisation staff to be able to give 5-10 minute brief interventions to clients or customers they are in contact with who may have or live with someone who has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
All trainees will be required to complete training evaluations and organisations will be required to support the monitoring of the effectiveness of this training once the training concludes to demonstrate that both the ABIT and Train the Trainer programme has been an effective process. This will also enable Cadas to further develop the training for future front line staff.
